Monsoon to hit Bengal in 2 days, says MeT; Kalbaisakhi alert in South Bengal
Train services on the Sealdah South section were disrupted on Tuesday morning after a section of railway passengers staged a blockade at Hotor station on the Baruipur–Diamond Harbour line. The disruption lasted for nearly one hour and began around 8:20 am, affecting daily suburban operations.
The protest was reportedly carried out by passengers demanding a reduction in the number of women’s coaches and an increase in general coaches on suburban trains. Commuters raised concerns over overcrowding and demanded changes in coach allocation on the route.
According to details, suburban trains on the Sealdah South section include one and a half coaches reserved for women at both the front and rear ends, totaling three women-only coach segments. A section of male passengers demanded that the half-coach women’s reserved segments be converted into general coaches due to heavy congestion.
The blockade was eventually lifted following intervention by railway officials, after which normal train movement resumed on the route. The disruption caused inconvenience to passengers and affected morning commuter traffic on the section.
